No Second Chances - Fan-Fic - Comic Vine

Dressed head to toe in a black tuxedo, Agent Stonewell was the quintessential spy. With a gun in his hand and a license to kill, he was unstoppable. But now he had come to the end of his mission, where he now faces two armed henchmen, and the evil Baron Schultz. Standing in the command center of the Baron's hidden volcano lair, in a thick German accent he shouts "Hand over the papers Agent Stonewell, There will be no second chances!"

The agent stood there calmly, assessing the situation knowing full well if he did it, it would mean the end of the world as we knew it. But sadly at this moment he was short on options. Just a few minutes ago as he was being led to the Baron's office he was stripped of his weapons including the gun up his sleeve and the dagger he kept strapped to his leg.

But being the man he is, he stood up tall showing no fear and instead answered back, "And what papers would that be?"

Again the Baron shouted back, this time with more anger, "The papers with the location to your governments hidden research labs!!"

Once again Stonewell kept calm, and in an honest but joking way answered back, "Oh those papers, Hmm (he smirks) I must have lost them."

It was then the Baron lost his cool, throwing his cane to the floor as he threw his arms in the air in disgust, then without a second thought he ordered his men, "Kill him, Kill him now but make it painful!"

Immediately the two henchmen smiled, even though one of them had the entire right side of his face horribly burned, and after loading one round into the chamber they aimed their Heckler & Koch MP7 at Stonewell's chest.

That was when it all happened. In one glorious act of self reliance, Stonewell saw a brandy container resting on a serving tray just to the right of him, Then as the two henchmen were caught off guard, he quickly grabbed the glass bottle and like a batter, he swung it across the head of the nearest henchman, and as it collided both glass and blood sprayed across the room, just as the henchman fell to the ground unconscious!

At the same time the henchman's automatic weapon fell from his arms, just in time for Agent Stonewell to catch it, and as the other henchman was completely caught off guard, Stonewell quickly killed him with a few rounds to his chest!

Immediately the Baron ran to his desk to get a gun as more guards outside began to run in. But before they could, Stonewell fired a few round into the electronic panel by the door, shutting it tight as a six inch steel door locked in place, locking the rest of them outside.

Then, just as the Baron was about to reach his desk, Agent Stonewell threw his weapon at him like a baton, hitting him in the back of the knee, forcing him to fall to the ground hard enough to knock him unconscious.

Suddenly from above, the words "Game Over" is spoken as the sound of a high-tech machine begins to shut down. Immediately we cut to a new room where a young fresh faced kid is being unplugged from a virtual reality machine.

"Welcome back to the real world" an employee says as he unhooks the sensors attached to the kid. "I hope you had a fun time here at Dream World, the number one virtual reality park in the world"

Taking only a few seconds to adjust back to reality, the young kid known as Peter, replies,"Oh yes I can't get enough of your Spy scenarios. In fact I'm saving up for your 'Under Water' package for next time!"

But shortly after having his vitals read, the employees silently look at each other, as they all thought in unison, that Peter was just another local loser, with no life of his own, and probably didn't even have a real friend. He was what they called 'A Log in Loser!'

Either way, Peter left the park with his head held high, as he relives every moment of the fantasy, even as he heads back to his rat hole of an apartment. And even though the world of 3001 was a masterpiece of advanced technology. Some of the people still live a life of poverty.

Now walking the streets of an A list society the streets are well lit, and filled with flying cars. Sadly young Peter continued to walk further until reaching the Trolley Station, known as the cheapest form of transportation, and after waiting patiently for it to arrive, he pays his two credits for a ride and takes his seat.

For the next two hours he rides as the Trolley moves slowly from one sector to another. And with each passing minute, the towns they pass demise in the quality of life style, until finally reaching Peter's destination.

Lit only by fire, as there is no working electricity, the people there look forgotten, hunching over and keeping their heads down. Even the conductor of the Trolley looks scared to be here, and as soon as Peter stepped off, he hovered away at top speed.

Despite his dire surroundings Peter seemed happy, almost joyful as if he was still in the Virtual Reality. But none the less he continued to walk towards his home even whistling a happy tune.

It was then, as he was walking past a dark spot, a place between the housing homes, where no sane man would walk through. Three thugs stepped from out of the shadows armed with lead pipes. Of the three of them, the one in the middle was clearly their leader as he was the one barking orders and instead of a pipe he was holding a thick metal chain.

"Hey Kid" he says while spinning his chain around him. "Where you heading?"

"Just back to my domicile" Peter replied while keeping his head down. "It's just a few blocks down the road."

With the wave from the gang leader's hand, one of his thugs shoves Peter back. Not hard enough to send him falling to the ground, but hard enough to let him know he is in trouble!

"Let's make it simple, dweeb. You give us your credits and we let you live!" the gang leader says as he wraps his chain around his fist in a disturbing way. Only to finish his threat with the words, "There are no second chances here for you kid!"

Suddenly Peter's mind races back to the Spy program and how his situation was just like Agent Stonewells. Despite the fact he is a frail young kid, this could be his defining moment. That one moment that could make him a man, and finally earn respect from his elders. He even noticed a discarded beer bottle resting on a pile of garbage to the right of him, just like in the game!

Immediately Peter's testosterone flowed, as he tightened his fist. In his head he goes over every move Agent Stonewell made right down to were he caught the falling gun. Despite the fact this was for real, Peter honestly felt he could pull this off.

With a deep and calming breath, Peter looks the gang leader in the eye, and without a word he reaches for the bottle.

Sadly enough Peter was no hero. A dreamer yes, but not a hero. At the moment he flinched, the gang leader pulled out a small switch blade and without a care in the world stabbed Peter in the gut, forcing him to cry like a baby and fall to the ground in a puddle of his own blood.

Then as the other two thugs proceed to kick poor Peter senselessly, the leader looked down upon Peter and laughed. The sad part was he didn't care about the credits, to him it was all about the violence. He even laughed out loud as poor Peter was dying and in an act of pure sadism, he licked the blood from off his blade.

Suddenly from above, the words "Game Over" is spoken as the sound of a high-tech machine begins to shut down. Inside a Government facility a young man, nothing like the gang leader he portrayed, is unhooked from a Virtual Reality machine as a group of scientist dressed in white take his vitals.

At the same time a rather professional looking man in a bright yellow suit with a yellow tie and a smile on his face approaches the young man with a clipboard while happy music is played in the background.

In a complete joyful tone he asks, "Now that your rage levels has been released, do you feel any need for violence?"

The young man smiles back and with a sense of great pride he answers, "No, I feel the eternal bliss." followed by a happy "Thank you so much for my anger release"

Then after a few seconds of reading the results from a master computer the man in yellow is pleased to inform him, "Wonderful then. We will schedule your next release in six months!"

For in this world being happy is a normal state of being, where all the worlds inhabitants walk with a smile on their face. But sadly even they know that human beings have a dark side and as such they are provided with a way to release their anger and rage in a safe and controlled way.
