Campers donated to East TN flood victims just in time for Christmas

NEWPORT, Tenn. (WVLT) - As some families across East Tennessee and Western North Carolina are still without a permanent home, there's a group that's dedicated their time trying to help with a solution.

Mountain Strong Sanctuary started after the flood and has been helping facilitate where a lot of donations from people across the county have gone.

So far they've given out 15 campers, two cars, a fire engine, and toys for eight different families for Christmas.

"I got to deliver a camper on Christmas Eve to somebody it was going to a family whose home had been destroyed by the hurricane," said Curtis Hawkins with Mountain Strong Sanctuary.

Hawkins said the family he delivered a camper to is in Bluff City and had been previously living in their car with their small children.

Now this family got to wake up on Christmas morning with a fresh start in a more comfortable environment.

"I mean it's the coolest Christmas present I'll ever get to give that's for sure," said Hawkins.

People with Mountain Strong Sanctuary have been out on Christmas Day dropping off supplies to people in need throughout Cocke County.

All of the campers and donations are free of charge to the people who are receiving them. If you'd like to learn more about how you can help contribute you can check out their Facebook page.
