Happy holidays, Lady Gaga just came through with a performance of her song "Christmas Tree." If your initial reaction to this news is "what is 'Christmas Tree,' I don't know her," that might be because Gaga hasn't performed the song in 16 full years. So naturally the reaction amongst fans is very much this:
"Christmas Tree" is one of several songs Gaga performed for Carpool Karaoke's holiday special (ft. Dua Lipa and Chappell Roan) on Apple TV+. She also sang "Die With a Smile," and talked about recording with Bruno Mars while working on LG7, saying "It was crazy. I went to see him at like 10 o'clock at night. He played me the idea and then we wrote the second verse, then we cut it at 2 in the morning. Bruno had me singing for four hours. He had an exact way that he wanted to hear it and I wanted to give him that."
On top of that, Gaga performed a cover of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" which was released on all platforms as a surprise:
She's truly feeding us.
Also, some details on LG7 real quick before we go: the album drops in February and Gaga told Vogue that it's "chaotic from a genre perspective -- it is genre-bending, and I think in that way is a deeply personal look into my mind as a producer and the way I think about music. When I write and produce and sing songs, I am always drawing upon my knowledge of the history of music, and so many artists and producers that came before me. In that way, this album is a celebration of a lot of the music that made me who I am, because when I returned to a darker pop style of pop, all my early experiences with music came out."
