Detectives have made an arrest after a man died following an incident on a North Lanarkshire street.
Officers said a 33-year-old, who has not been named, was injured on Stirling Street, Airdrie, at about 02:45.
He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police Scotland said a 21-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the death and inquiries were ongoing.
Det Ch Insp Jamie Campbell said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this difficult time and our officers will continue to support them as the investigation continues.
"I am aware that this incident will be of concern to the local community in Airdrie but I would like to reassure the public that additional patrols are in the area as part of this ongoing investigation and there is no threat to the wider community."
The officer urged anyone with concerns to speak to officers and appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
