Data are essential to inform crisis responses for displaced and mobile populations. The Displacement Tracking Matrix is a central tool, providing data on internal displacement across 100 countries which are needed to inform action to save lives and protect people on the move. IOM addresses fragmented data collection with tools such as a central data dictionary, fostering faster, more efficient responses, and works with partners to improve data insights and support for vulnerable populations.
Data-driven solutions for displacement are needed to build resilience and get people and host communities back on the pathway to well-being. IOM delivers data and analyses to strengthen collective action in support of solutions for over 70 million internally displaced persons worldwide.
IOM's data-driven approach is central to building resilience, supporting solutions for internally displaced persons and improving crisis response in fragile settings worldwide. Collecting comprehensive and accurate data on the experiences of migrants along various migration routes is critical to prevent further loss of life. The Organization has developed a number of data-collection tools to enhance avenues for and the quality of human mobility. To address inefficiencies in data collection, IOM is investing in foundational tools, such as a central data dictionary and a data warehouse. These initiatives streamline data collection and ensure consistent, comparable data, ultimately enabling faster, more effective crisis responses.
Partnerships, such as with the Complex Risk Analytics Fund (CRAF'd), further strengthen IOM's capacity to provide operationally relevant data, allowing for the use of large-scale, subnational mobility data and benefiting over 42 million people in crisis-affected settings.
IOM also co-leads the inter-agency Data for Solutions to Internal Displacement Taskforce, in close coordination with the Office of the Special Adviser on Internal Displacement.
