Thank you to the Omaha World-Herald and reporter Chris Burbach for the wonderful, thorough, and inspiring article about welcoming refugees in Omaha ("Omaha refugee agencies hurry to resettle people before Trump takes office," Dec. 15). As a retired English as a Second Language teacher for Omaha Public Schools, I know that refugees and immigrants just want a better life for their families.
If you're thinking about helping out, it will be a life-changing experience to be a friend to a newly arriving family. Having someone to trust to guide them through the complexities of American life is a wonderful gift. I encourage you to "just do it!" Contact CIRA, OCRISI, or LFS Nebraska and find out the many ways you can gift yourself in this season of sharing.
