Local Alabama outlet Al.com reported that Hudson was "critically injured when he fell from a moving vehicle." The accident happened on December 19 at 10:47pm. He was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital two days later.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates confirmed that Hudson "sustained blunt force injuries" from the accident and his death is now under investigation.
Hudson's family wrote on Instagram, "Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight. His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and significantly impacted everyone he met."
