Ethiopia is currently facing significant challenges due to conflict, drought, and disease outbreaks such as cholera, measles, and malaria. As of October 2024, 3.6 million people have been displaced in the country and there are 3.2 million returnees according to DTM and OCHA. In 2024, 9.4 million malaria cases were reported, far exceeding the number of cases reported in each of the past five years. Cholera outbreaks are ongoing in 23 woredas, while 11 woredas have ongoing measles outbreaks. The health cluster has identified 16.4 million people in need of healthcare services in 2024, targeting 6.6 million of them for humanitarian and emergency health response. To address this, the health cluster has prioritized 294 woredas and mobilized resources accordingly. By November 2024, the cluster (53 active implementing partners) had reached 6.2 million people. According to the Financial Tracking Service (FTS), as of 13 December, the cluster has received $37 million out of the required $187 million to support the targeted population. Despite limited resources, health cluster partners have been active in 513 woredas of the targetd 979 woredas, addressing various health needs. Moving forward, the health cluster will focus on mobilizing partners to intensify response in the most severely affected areas and populations. Moni-toring the response and ensuring alignment with agreed priorities remains a core task of the cluster.
The cluster will continue to advocate for more partner presence in areas with identified support needs.
