BLOOMINGTON -- Marjorie Kay Workman, 90 of Bloomington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Luther Oaks, Lutheran Life Communities.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Glen Cemetery, Paxton with Pastor Pat Allin officiating. Baier Family Funeral Services is handling arrangements.
Marjorie was born November 18, 1934, in Paxton the daughter of William Jacob and Sophia Mae Sexton Brinegar. On June 5, 1961, she married Herschel Workman, who preceded her in death on May 27, 1990.
She is survived by her son, Herschel (Tammy) Workman of Wickenburg, Arizona and her daughter, Cheryl (Dorsey) Packard of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Kristian (David) Hoerres, Nicholas Workman, Trey Packard, Cory Packard and Lexi Packard; two great grandchildren, Carter and Ella Hoerrres. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel, her brothers, Don Brinegar and Gene Pearson and her sisters Justine Mineer and Barbara Ogle.
She graduated from Paxton High School in 1952 and received a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing in 1980 from the University of Illinois. Higher education was very important to her and she instilled the love of learning in her grandchildren and was very proud of their educational achievements. As a public health nurse for the Champaign-Urbana Public Health, she provided compassion, care and support to all of her clients and retired in 1999.
She served as a member on several boards, including Family Services of Champaign and Community Resource and Counseling Center of Paxton. She volunteered at the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen in Champaign. After retirement, she pursued her certificate and became a Master Gardener and enjoyed many days of working in her yard and landscaping. She loved helping others and volunteered many hours to the program.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom and love in abundance. She will be deeply missed.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff of Luther Oaks and Compassus Hospice who provided excellent care and support to our mother.
