IOWA CITY -- The University of Iowa announced changes to the Hawkeye softball coaching staff on Tuesday.
According to a press release from the university, head coach Renee Gillispie intends to step away from her position for the 2025 season due to a personal health matter.
In place of Gillispie, Iowa announced assistant coach Brian Levin will serve as the interim head coach for the 2025 season.
In six seasons at the helm in Iowa City, Gillispie led the Hawkeyes to a record of 136-141 including a 35-27 record in 2023 which marked the most wins in a season since 2009.
Levin joined Iowa ahead of the 2023 season. Prior to joining the Hawkeyes, Levin served as the head coach at Southern Mississippi for three seasons, compiling a 65-62 record.

He also served as the head coach at Belmont for three seasons, posting a 91-70 record, and at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, posting a 150-25 record.
Coming off a 18-28 regular season and 6-17 conference record in 2024, Iowa's 2025 season begins on Feb. 7 in the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida.
