WEAVERVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) -- Children throughout the Weaverville, N.C., area were able to celebrate Christmas early this holiday season at a toy giveaway on Dec. 21.
The giveaway, hosted by the Re-written Story Foundation, a local nonprofit, had more than $20,000 worth of toys at the Weaverville Community Center, ready to be passed out to children affected by Hurricane Helene.
Tracy Story, founder and president of the Re-written Story Foundation, organized the event, telling News 3 that he is "happy to be a part of the outpouring of support" and to gift Western North Carolina children with a "happy and memorable Christmas."

"After seeing the way the storm impacted everybody, the way that families were displaced, and the lack of support from some agencies, we wanted to see what we could do to help," Story said. "We appear to be one of many that have come from across the nation to take care of folks in need, and that's kind of how this started -- we wanted to make sure these children had the best Christmas they could possibly have."
The first 100 kids present at the giveaway were able to receive a shopping bag, a Scentsy buddy, and a pre-filled stocking donated by Appalachian Stockings Lane, all while Santa himself helped them pick out their gifts.
